Leave no trace

With the improvement of humans’ technology, damage on nature is not capable to avoid, albeit worse. With the greediness of human, there is more and more destruction in nature, over consume of natural resources. ON the other hand, environmentalists did set up different Green Association as to protect the environment and educate people from damaging the Earth. Through out the years, environmentalist did enquire the government for setting up laws to protect the endangered species and National safari or park to preserve the living environment of the species as to maintain the balance of the ecological system of the rural area.

Discuses about the National Park that Canadian Government authorised, the primo National Safari Banff National Park, established in 1885.
Later then, more and more National Park was established. Till now, there are 38 National park and national park resources which consist of 2.25 percent of the land in Canada. With this gross amount of Land used for preserving the rural area, most of special cultural habit of animal.

Take Algonquin as example, Algonquin is a heat spot of hiking and camping. With its charming scenery, it is crowded with hikers, campers and amateur photographer during the summer. With this numerous amount of visitors, it is crucial to maintain the nature environment. Government and different NGO did do a lot of measures to protect the nature but to those hikers, campers and people who enjoyed the nature, we should follow a "Leave no trace" principle.

Leave No trace,
History on Leave No Trace
is a nonprofit organization in 1994,
But the Leave No Trace concept is over 40 years old.

Concept on Leave No Trace

The Seven principles

PLAN AHEAD AND PREPARE

Identify the expectation of the trip you like,
Choose equipments which are environmental friendly and safety
Be aware to the weather throughout the trip
Have a good meal planing based on Less trash, Light packet wrap, and Low dependence on cooking( campfire)

TRAVEL AND CAMP ON DURABLE SURFACES

Travel on trials
no shortcut should be make as if everyone did this, the durability of the shortcut path will over the limit and it does damage to the environment
Camp on High-use area( mainly authorized as a camp site )
Try not to destroy any vegetation cover of landscape

DISPOSE OF WASTE PROPERLY

Basically follow the regulation of the campsite, not to dispose the waste to any unauthorized area even you see a lot of trash has been placed there

LEAVE WHAT YOU FIND

Don't try to take any rocks or specific structure as they are part of the cultural and the historic structures and artifacts

MINIMIZE CAMPFIRE IMPACTS

As campfire may lead to a hill fire
use lightweight stove as to replace using campfire of any cookery
if it is a crucial part of the camping
clean up after the function

RESPECT WILDLIFE

do not try to interact with the wildlife
any kind of interaction are forbidden, such as feeding, forcing wildlife to flee

BE CONSIDERATE OF OTHER VISITORS

Try to respect others, clean up after camping, leave a neat environment for the next user

  1. Of course it is true that there are so many environmental issues in the world. I find it very overwhelming to think about and solve problems such as the decline of the east coast fisheries or the destruction of the Amazon Rainforest. Some problems are just too big for us to solve on our own and there is sometimes only little we can do. What I like about your environmental issue is that you can actually do something hands on. There are so many parks in Canada and these are good guidelines to follow. You also listed many good safety precautions such as do not try to interact with wildlife. I like the fact that this is a national non-profit organization which inspires responsible outdoor recreation and respect for the wild lands. Everybody should follow these guidelines to limit disruption of the ecosystems. I really enjoyed reading your blog post because it was a very interesting issue. By following The Leave No Trace rules, we can make such a huge difference for the better of the environment. These guidelines are great to even follow when you go for a walk outside or go to a local park. I also liked how you organized this post; it was very easy to read.

  2. Although there is not much that we can do to stop people from destroying our earth, your orginization gives us multiple outlets by which we can help not destroy it ourselves. I think it is crucial for people to get involved in helping maintain the land we have and I think that the "Leave No Trace" campaign is one that has already started to, and will furthermore, benefit us as a society. Your post was very interesting, and the guidlines you gave were helpful and straight forward.

  3. I thoroughly agree with the previous commentators before me. The conservation of the habitats around us benefit not only the animals of our world, but also humans. The 'Leave No Trace' campaign sets some very specific rules on how to treat the nature that we are blessed with. We should integrate these rules while on school field trips in Elementary... perhaps even now!

Very nice job! Watch out for the grammatical error and spelling in some places.

  4. I agree with what your saying about how human greed and technological advancements are hurting the environment. I also think that the, "Leave No Trace", organization is helping our environment a lot. Although I don't see how this organization is helping biodiversity. Even though this is a good organization, its more of an environmental group rather than an biodiversity one. Other than that I find it very informative.

  5. Heey Wayne!
The post is great. It's very informative.
We can't help it as humans - our curiousity drives us to discover more and more. But, like you said, it's hurting our environment.
I like how your article teaches us something simple that we all can do, whether we're just in the neighbourhood, or if we're out camping or hiking. The 'Leave No Trace' is a very education, non-profit organization with lots of easy and simple guidelines. Nice formatting, by the way. Easy on the eyes. :)

And to comment to Tharajan's post above...
Although Wayne's post is about the environment, it still counts as a biodiversity topic, I think. Plants and trees and the animals that inhabit it... Everything links to biodiversity, and our duty to protect it.

  6. Hello Wayne,

Great post! I really like this concept of "Leave no Trace" it's great and it's exactly what we need to inform people to do when going outdoors so that the natural balance of the ecosystem is not disturbed. It is good to know organizations like this exist, i know i have never heard of it and I'm sure many others have yet to hear of it as well.

The seven principles stated make a lot of sense and are definitely doable in when going outdoors and camping. This just goes to show you can have optimal fun outdoors without "leaving a trace".

  7. I like the concept of Leave No Trace. It is important that we, as humans, see what nature has to offer. But while doing so, we must try to harm it as little as possible. The tips are very helpful for whenever humans go camping or hiking in the forest. Taking care of the earth will not only benefit the environment, but also animals and human beings. Organizations that help the environment also end up helping biodiversity in general.
